Missio Dei Phoenix | February Update

We hit the ground running in the new year, and I’m excited to let you know how God is working in our community!

  • Implementing discipleship groups at Missio Dei Chandler.
  • Blessing a family in great need.
  • Our small group moving toward launch team and vision nights.
  • Ways you can join our mission in PHX.
Discover – Nurture – Act | DNA Groups

As Associate Pastor of Missio Dei Chandler, one of the tasks Pastor Scott has given me is to implement relationship-based discipleship groups. I had some experience starting these DNAs in SF with Citizens Church, so it was a matter of taking that model and adapting these 3 person, gender-specific groups to our church in Chandler. It was a great turnout, and we are now having those interested form groups organically. Please pray for the Spirit to grow our church in the grace of Christ, and that this growth would continually manifest in sacrificial love wherever God has placed us.

A Family in Need

One of our launch team members, Jon Sanborn, is the Arizona state director of CarePortal, a non-profit focused on connecting the local church to help hurting children and families in their neighborhoods. Requests are submitted to caseworkers through their website, and local churches jump at the first opportunity to provide tangible things like beds, tables, dressers, cribs, car seats, and more to those in need.

We got the privilege to meet such a need last week in South Phoenix. Grace and Nicholas (names changed), and their daughter Hanna, just took in a kinship child placement of their great grand-daughter, Casey, and it has been a jarring experience (as you could imagine if you were in your late 70s). Jon and I were able to take some benevolence money from our church fund and personally deliver a car seat, high chair, dresser, and stroller for Casey. While we were there, Grace asked us to pray to Jesus for her husband, Nicholas, who she was about to take to the emergency room since he has been struggling with his health. We prayed and then left, and when I followed up the next day, I found out that Nicholas is dying of cancer and is most likely in the last weeks or months of his life.

Our hearts are grieved for this family that God has brought into our lives, and we are praying about how we can serve them, whether it’s bringing a meal, tangible things like more diapers, or inviting them to be a part of our church community. Please pray with us for this family that has little community support but a true hope in Jesus.
Missio Dei Phoenix Launch Team

This is a recent Missio Dei Phoenix Vision Night we hosted at the Newton in Central Phoenix (next one is planned for March 9th!). It was an exciting time for me to finally share what has been on my heart for a while now and to have others meet our Missio small group.

That night marked a new phase in moving from a small group started out of Missio Dei Chandler to an official church plant launch team. From the beginning of our meetings, we have prioritized getting to know each other by sharing our stories about coming to know Jesus. Now, with our team excited about bringing others into our community, we have transitioned to informal home worship gatherings in which we read and study Scripture, sing, discuss our values, plan our weekly rhythms, take communion, eat together, and pray for each other and those that do not yet know Jesus, aiming to be a blessing of love, grace, and fellowship to many. We’re thankful for the new folks that have joined us for these gatherings to get to know us and pray about joining our mission to PHX, and we continually have conversations with others interested in what we’re doing.

Please pray for our hearts and minds to constantly be set on Jesus in all things, for he truly is the “founder and perfecter of our faith” (Heb. 12:2), the true Shepherd of our church!

How to Join Our Mission

Pray – How is God moving you to pray for our church? Please share that with me as the Spirit leads you. I would love to let our team know!

Join – Would you pray and consider joining our launch team? Maybe you would like to meet for coffee to learn more or hang out with us at Missio gathering or a community party? Please reach out, we would love to have you get to know our community!

Give – How might the Spirit be leading you to support us financially?

Our suggested amount to give is via a monthly recurring gift between $25-$50 ($300-$600/year) for 2-3 years until internal giving increases.

Below is the giving link to offer a recurring or one-time gift. We are truly grateful for any amount, and thank you to all of you who have been able to give already!

Connect – Who else can you connect us to? I would love to meet with them! You can send me their info, send them mine, or introduce us via email or text. Better yet, bring them to our next vision night on Saturday, March 9th!

He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.” Colossians 1:13, 14

Peace in Christ,
